!! What's New !! - !! Natali Knibbs Takes Over as FOLKS Secretary !!

Hi all,

Firstly, as a parent of a LKS sufferer and a FOLKS member since 2000, I would like to thank Richard for all his hard work and  the effort he (and the other committee members) have put into FOLKS.  Without all their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm over the years, I doubt that FOLKS would be what it is today.

I wish Richard all the best for the future!

As mentioned, I first become a member of FOLKS in 2000 when my son Matthew was diagnosed with LKS.  At that time there was not much information available about the condition and when I was presented with a photocopied paragraph from my son’s neurologist to explain LKS, I did some research online and came across the FOLKS website.  The information, help and support that we as a family received from FOLKS was remarkable and saw us through many hard years to come.  Thankfully, Matthew has fully recovered and is now a happy well-adjusted 14-year-old (well…. as adjusted as a teenager can be!!!!).

The experience has not only seen Matthew coming out of the condition successfully, but it has also led me onto a new career path as a Nutritional Therapist and I am now enjoying working for myself and being in a position to help others.

Having taken over the role of secretary from Richard, I look forward to being able to put something back into FOLKS and being able to offer help and support to other families that are affected by this condition.

There are some exciting developments happening with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), which will help the study and research of LKS as well as improving the information available to families.  We will update you of these in the near future.

I hope that 2010 brings you all hope and success.

Natali Knibbs
