Landau Kleffner Syndrome (LKS)

My younger brother has LKS...

“Imagine you are a child that has acquired speech naturally and is developing like any normal child. Then over a short while your speech and ability to communicate starts to go. How confusing, concerning and frustrating this must be. Try and picture how hard it would be trying to explain something to your mum, dad, brother or sister and they haven’t got the foggiest what on earth you are on about. Try and visualize that you look normal and people expect you to be normal but when they speak to you and hear what you are saying they turn their backs and think ‘stupid little kid trying to be funny’ This must be so hard for the child that you have just pictured. The child you are looking at in your heads is a child with LKS”
